HC450: SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Bootcamp

With the release of SQL Server 2005, Microsoft has completely re-architected their Business Intelligence (BI) platform. Veteran BI professionals who want to upgrade their skills and newcomers alike will learn how to apply key BI concepts using the new 2005 Integration Services (formerly DTS), Analysis Services, and Reporting Services.

Through instructor-led sessions and hands-on exercises, students will develop an understanding of what has changed and what is new in the 2005 BI SQL Server architecture. Students will learn how to develop applications using the new Business Intelligence Development Studio environment, how to use the new Integration Services tasks and transformations, how to build dimensions and cubes for analytical applications, how to take advantage of the new features in Reporting Services, how to use MDX in queries and formulas, and how to work with the new Data Mining models and tools. Students will be able to immediately apply this knowledge to their real-world databases and BI applications in preparation for the transition to SQL Server 2005.

Prerequisites:
This course is intended for business analysts, database developers, database administrators, and database architects who are responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Business Intelligence applications.

Students should meet the following prerequisites; Have an understanding of Business Intelligence principles and concepts. Be familiar with basic relational database design, administration, and implementation concepts.

MDX Training Course

HC460: SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Bootcamp

This five-day course shows students how to develop business intelligence solutions using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. Analysis Services is a business intelligence platform that enables users to efficiently query large data sets and to perform sophisticated analyses using complex formulas, thus combining the benefits of database and spreadsheet technology in a single solution. Students of this class will learn how to use key components, such as data sources, data source views, dimensions, cubes, perspectives, MDX scripts, and key performance indicators to create a Analysis Services project. By attending this class, students will also learn how to manage updates to these objects, apply security, and work with the more advanced features of Analysis Services to create a business intelligence solution. At the end of this class, students should be able to apply the real-world situations discussed in the classroom to their own environments to build solutions that help users better analyze business information.

Prerequisites:
This course is targeted towards the following types of students: Business Intelligence Architects, Data Warehouse Administrators, Application Developers.

HC465: Hands On MDX with SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services

BI solution developers, report designers and administrators of Analysis Services applications have many opportunities to use MDX expressions to enhance the analytic ability of an application. This course provides these professionals with the knowledge and skills to create and use MDX expressions and queries for Analysis Services cubes. At the end of the course, the student should feel confident in developing MDX expressions, formulas, KPIs, calculations and queries and will take home many useful, real-world examples to adapt to their own environments.

Prerequisites:
This course is targeted to database developers and architects, Business Intelligence solution developers, report designers and business analysts such as financial planners, marketing analysts, cost accountants and the like.

Before beginning this course, students should have: An understanding of basic database design, administration, and implementation concepts.
Understanding of basic OLAP database concepts in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, including:
- Creating databases, dimensions, and cubes.
- Creating simple calculated members.
- Working with shared and private dimensions.
- Processing a cube.

HC455: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Boot Camp

This three-day course provides students with the skills neeeded to implement reporting solutions using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. Reporting Services is an enterprise-ready reporting platform that supports end-to-end report development, management, and delivery with newly added interactive features and ad hoc reporting capabilities for end users.

By learning the details behind data sources, data sets, parameters, management, security, and working with the more advanced features of Reporting Services, students will achieve a complete understanding of how to use Reporting Services to create and manage reports.

Microsoft MDX Training Courses

HC470: SQL Server 2005 Integration Services Boot Camp

This five-day, instructor-led course shows students how to use the new features of Integration Services to load operational data into the relational tables of a data warehouse.

Beginning with an overview of common activities related to integrating SQL Server with other data sources, this course continues with examples for using the new transformations as well as for working with deployed packages. Through a series of demonstrations and hands-on labs, you will work with common, practical, real-world examples to build SSIS packages that work with relational and non-relational data sources, manage referential integrity, handle slowly changing dimensions and other data warehousing challenges, and implement complex transformations. You will also learn how to use the debugging and error handling features in SSIS to detect, troubleshoot, and recover from errors that occur during package execution.

Prerequisites:
Students should meet the following prerequisites: understand basic database design, administration, and implementation concepts. Have knowledge of basic Transact-SQL syntax (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements). Be familiar with basic relational design, administration, and implementation concepts.
