Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services extends the Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) vision by providing a comprehensive, server-based solution that enables the creation, management, and delivery of both traditional, paper-oriented reports and interactive, Web-based reports. Reporting Services provides a report repository, a report authoring tool and centralised manager.  The authoring and management services are offered as Web services.

An Integrated Architecture

Report developers can create reports using Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework. Reports are published and managed on the report server through a Web service.  Reports can be delivered to end users on demand or on a specified schedule.

Reporting Services supports a wide range of date sources and output formats.  Integration with Web services allows orgransations to leverage the capabilities of their existing information systems and connect to custom data sources. Users can view reports in a Web-based format or in e-mail
